Maestro Moises Vasquez Nunta is of the Shipibo nation from the area of the Ucayali River in the Peruvian Amazon. Born in 1981, Moises is a member of the up-and-coming generation of young Shipibo maestros who have committed to the long path of Master Plant Dietas and sacrifices needed to become an Onaya (Shipibo for “healer” / “man of wisdom” / “medicine man”). Moises was born and raised in the remote Shipibo village of Nuevo Nazareth, 9-10 hours by speedboat from Pucallpa.
Moises’ Shipibo name is Isá Wéni, which means “vision of expanding birds”. Moises’ philosophy of healing is “more than anything about the light”. In his experience, nothing dark can escape the light of the icaros. He has explained that through their experience with plant dietas, maestros learn to transmit the medicine’s healing powers to the ceremonial participants. The responsibility of the guest is to show up, trust the process, and open themselves up to the medicine and to the icaros. His mission is to guide the medicine into the guests to support their healing and bring light into their lives. Moises has been on the path of plant medicine healing, dieting, and training for over 12 years.
We feel honored to have Maestro Moises as part of our team and look forward to many more years of working together as Moises continues on his path of carrying on the traditions of the elder Shipibo maestros.
